Young Musician Opportunities
String Play-In
Student musicians can join the LPO orchestra in one performance in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026.
The Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra is inviting all student string players to perform on Saturday October 18, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Fusion Church in Lowell during our annual Family Concert! The student musicians will join the full orchestra in a performance of “Creatures” by Brian Balmages. This is a Grade 2 piece. There are no auditions or age restrictions to participate, we just ask that all students learn the music to the best of their ability before the first rehearsal and attend the three rehearsals below with the orchestra. Students will sit side-by-side with a member of the orchestra who will support and encourage the student for the experience to be a successful one.
The LPO is a group of musicians from the greater Lowell area who perform orchestral music from a variety of genres. Since its founding in 1903, the LPO’s mission has been to inspire the greater Merrimack Valley with musical performances given throughout the year. Playing alongside the LPO’s seasoned and knowledgeable musicians will provide the students with a phenomenal learning experience, it is also an impressive extracurricular activity to list on college applications and resumes.
Participating students are required to attend the following 3 Tuesday night rehearsals and Saturday performance with the full orchestra:
Tuesday September 30, 7:30-8:00pm (Pawtucket Congregational Church, 15 Mammoth Rd, Lowell, MA)
Tuesday October 7, 7:30-8:00pm (Pawtucket Congregational Church, 15 Mammoth Rd, Lowell, MA)
Tuesday October 14, 7:30-8:00pm (Fusion Church, 125 Mt Hope St, Lowell, MA)
(Students and their families are invited to stay until 9:30 to watch the orchestra rehearse)
Saturday October 18, 12:30pm-1:30pm touch up rehearsal — 2:00pm performance, approximate end time 4:00pm
(Fusion Church, 125 Mt Hope St, Lowell, MA)
