Join the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra Volunteers (LPOV) as we work together to create a community where quality musical performances are made accessible for everyone in the Greater Lowell area.
Volunteer
We are actively building an inclusive community of volunteers - creating a space where people of all backgrounds, abilities and experience levels can contribute their time and talents in a supportive environment. We want all individuals to feel welcomed, valued and respected - and are always open to other ideas on ways for people to help out our organization. Join us today and become a part of the growing LPO community!
If you’re interested in volunteering, please fill out our general inquiry form below. This will add you to our email list - and loop you into our current volunteer opportunities.
If you have specific questions or ideas on how to help, please contact our Volunteer Manager, Sarah Martin at smartin@lowellphilharmonic.org.
Volunteer Opportunities
Check-In & Ticketing, Ushers/Greeters on Concert Days:
At each of our concerts, we typically need help staffing our ticket, raffle, and activity tables 30 minutes prior to the start of our concerts.
Volunteers need to be comfortable handling money and using an electronic app on a personal phone/tablet/laptop to make ticket sales.
It’s also helpful to have ushers/greeters standing at each entrance, to answer any questions our attendees may have and to point them in the right direction. This really helps the day run more smoothly!
Volunteers need to be comfortable standing for ~30 minutes.
Time commitment: ~1 hour of your time at each concert. We’d love to have your help at one concert, or you could commit to several (there are five per year)
Stage Management - Breaking Down the Stage on Concert Days:
After the concert is over, we have to put away all the stands & chairs. Typically the musicians are quick to tackle this task, but the more hands we have here - the better!
Volunteers need to be comfortable handling music stands and chairs.
Time commitment: ~10-15 minutes after each concert
Concert Day Task Rabbit:
Often on concert days, we need help picking up a case of water, bouquets of flowers, or other small items. If you’re local and would feel comfortable picking up some miscellaneous items - we’d love your help!
Volunteers would drop off items between 12-1pm at Fusion Church on concert days; we would reimburse you for those purchases on the day-off.
Time commitment: Likely ~30 minutes
Spreading the word!:
Ahead of each concert, we often hang up posters around the Greater Lowell area - in addition to creating social media posts, telling the local newspaper, and so on. We’d love some help going into local businesses about 1-2 weeks ahead of each concert and hanging LPO posters. We’re also open to any other ideas on ways to spread the word about our events!
Time commitment: Variable (Even just hanging a few posters would make a difference)
Videography on concert days:
To forward our mission in making classical music accessible to all, we need help filming our concert days - with the goal of ultimately posting them online so anyone can experience the LPO’s performances.
Volunteers would need to have familiarity with videography, be able to bring their own recording equipment, and provide us with an edited video for us to post.
Time commitment: ~2.5 hours on each concert day (30 minutes of setup, two hours of recording)
Social media management:
We’re looking for some help building up our social media presence! Key responsibilities would include:
Creating and scheduling posts across multiple platforms (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.), finding ways to help us build our presence over time & reach a larger audience.
Potentially attend concerts to take photos & short video clips to be used as posts. And/or collaborate with someone who will do that.
Semi-regularly (1-2 times per year) report on engagement with our social media, so we can continue to improve it
Time commitment: 1-2 hours/week; can be done remotely
Grant manager:

Benefits for our Volunteers
Free admission: All volunteers receive free admission to our concerts, in addition to one guest. If you are under the age of 17, your admission is already free - and will therefore get two free guest tickets. You’ll also receive 2 free raffle tickets.
Invite to our Annual Meeting: Each year, we all get together to elect our members to the Executive Board, and review our performance throughout the last year & goals for the upcoming year. We’d love any & all feedback on your volunteer experience or ideas on other ways the LPO can improve as an organization.
If you volunteered at two or more concerts during the year, you’ll receive some LPO merchandise, tickets for the following year’s concerts, and some thank you gifts!
Invite to attend our Dress Rehearsal: If you’ve ever wondered what a rehearsal looks like, we’d love for you to attend our dress rehearsal & see the LPO at work! (Please be sure to communicate with us ahead of time, so we’re aware of your attendance).
