Calling all student string players
The LPO is a group of community musicians from the greater Lowell area who meet
regularly to practice orchestral music from a variety of genres. Since its founding in 1987,
the LPO’s mission has been to inspire the greater Merrimack Valley with musical
performances given throughout the year. Led by Valerie Taylor, a conducting Professor of
the Berklee College of Music with violinist background, the LPO is composed of musicians
of all ages and abilities.
The Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra is looking for student string players who would like
to perform in our “Spotlight on Youth” concert on Sunday afternoon, March 4, 2018,
at the St. Louis School Chapel Hall in Lowell. Violinists, Violists, Cellists, and Bassists are welcome.
Students will join the orchestra in a performance of the first movement of the Mozart Divertimento in D Major. There are no auditions or age restrictions to participate, we only ask the students feel comfortable with the music that is being played.
Students will be required to practice the music ahead of time and attend the first 20 minutes of our Tuesday evening rehearsals at 7:30pm on January 30th, February 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th. Rehearsals are held at the Pawtucket Congregational Church, 15 Mammoth Rd, Lowell, MA.
Playing alongside the LPO’s seasoned and knowledgeable musicians will provide the students with a phenomenal learning experience as well as an impressive extracurricular activity to list on college applications and resumes. We encourage all area music teachers to let their students know about this opportunity. Please email any questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
