The Jeanne Selander Concerto Competition 2026 Results

The Jeanne Selander Memorial Concerto Competition was held on February 14, 2026, following an outstanding second round that featured 16 incredibly talented contestants. The level of artistry, dedication, and musical excellence made this year’s competition truly unforgettable.

1st Place - Yeonjoo Melody Oh

Yeonjoo Melody Oh is a 17 years old violinist currently residing in Frisco, Texas and studying at

Phillips Academy Andover. She started learning violin when she was 8 years old in her Korean

elementary school. She is now studying with Dr. Minhee Bae and Mr. Charles Dimmick. At

school, she has served as first violin principal of Phillips Academy Symphony Orchestra and

Chamber Orchestra. She is also devoted to chamber music as a part of Phillips Academy

Chamber Society.

Yeonjoo continued her passion for music during the summers, participating in National

Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute in 2025 and Carnegie Hall-sponsored National

Youth Orchestra 2 in 2024. In 2025 and 2023, she won Honorable Mention in the Music

Teachers National Association (MTNA) Competition in Texas. In June 2022, she was invited to

perform solo in Carnegie Hall as the 1st place winner of American ProtΓ©gΓ©.

Interested in using music to influence her community, Yeonjoo currently volunteers in Andover

Lawrence Strings to teach children in the city of Lawrence how to play an instrument. She has

also taken part in a program Remedy Through Music, where she shared music with elders living

in senior assistance, from 2022 to 2023. Outside of music, she enjoys learning history and

biology and editing articles for her school's newspaper. In her free time, she likes to watch Studio

Ghibli movies and scribble down some poems!

2nd Place - Nathan Chun

Nathan Chun, a 15-year-old violinist, studies under Professor Peter Zazofsky at Boston University. Last September, he joined the first violin section of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra after serving as co-concertmaster of the Youth Symphony at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School. Nathan has performed as a fellow with the Equity Arc National Pathways Orchestra representing Project STEP, participated in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association District and All-State Orchestras, and earned Second Place in the Bay State String Competition.

Nathan is passionate about expanding access to classical music and fostering community through his art. He has performed in fundraising concerts since kindergarten, founded and directed his middle school chamber orchestra, and now serves with the Back to Bach Project to bring music education to children in underserved communities.

Nathan is currently a sophomore at Phillips Academy Andover, where you'll find him immersed in orchestra and chamber music, singing with the chamber choir Fidelio, and performing with the a cappella groups Keynotes and Downbeat. When he is not practicing or performing, Nathan channels his curiosity and drive into leading the school’s rocketry club, tackling physics problems, and hitting the trails as a varsity nordic skier.

3rd Place - Harry Liu

Harry Liu is a 16 year old cellist from Arlington, Massachusetts. He is a junior at Belmont Hill School and has been studying the cello with Miriam Eckelhoefer for 8 years. Currently, he is a member of the Boston Youth Symphony and the BYS chamber music program. Additionally, he has also participated in the Senior Districts and All State ensembles multiple times. Outside of music, Harry enjoys playing tennis, hockey, and skiing.

Honorable Mention - Tomi Duintjer Tebbens Nishioka

Tomi Duintjer Tebbens Nishioka, viola, is a 17-year-old junior at the Commonwealth School and has studied violin and viola since age four. He joined the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras in 2018 as a violinist and has served as a principal violist in its top orchestra, BYS, conducted by Federico Cortese, since 2023. He was also named Assistant Principal Violist of the MMEA Eastern District Festival on three separate occasions. At Commonwealth, Tomi is the principal violist of its orchestra and performs regularly in solo and chamber roles. Beyond performing, he enjoys teaching violin and viola to students in the Boston area, sharing his passion for music with younger musicians.
