Performed at our May 6, 2016, and November 2016 concerts
Patrick Lu is a 10 year old fifth grader at the Crisafulli School in Westford. He began taking piano lessons at age five and currently studies with Ronald Kmiec. Patrick has performed in Boston at Symphony Hall, Steinert Hall, and Seully Hall (Boston Conservatory), as the first place winner of the 2015 Steinway Society of Massachusetts Piano Competition (Division 1) and 2015 Bay State Piano Competition (Age 9 Division). Patrick enjoyed performing at Steinway Society organized concerts, including the 2015 holiday concert at Mass General Hospital Chapel, Fox Hill Village Senior Center, and the 2016 WCRB Classical Cartoon Festival at Symphony Hall. Patrick also enjoys bringing music to local senior centers and hospital health centers.
Patrick was the 3rd place winner of 2015 American Protege International Concerto Competition. Later in the year, he performed the 1st and 2nd movements of Mozart’s Concerto No. 23 at the CAMSA (Concord Area Music School Association) Concerto Concert at Steinert Hall. This February, Patrick received the “Conductor’s Choice” soloist award in 2016 Jeanne Selander Concerto Competition, and will perform Mozart’s Concerto No. 23 with the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra, 1st movement on May 6th and the entire concerto on November 18th 2016. He also recently was awarded the 3rd prize in the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, CT.
Besides playing piano, Patrick plays oboe in his school’s fifth grade band. He loves playing soccer and has been playing on the Westford town youth team for five years. He is also an elected member of the Crisafulli School Student Council, and writes for the school newspaper. He especially enjoys writing factual quizzes and poems. In his free time, Patrick enjoys making origami and reading.
