Steven Travaglione, 15, began studying the harp at age nine with Mrs. Michele Pinet at Creative Arts in Reading, Massachusetts. At age eleven, he began performing in orchestras with The New England Conservatory’s Festival Youth Orchestra. In August 2004, he performed Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp with the orchestra.
In February 2005, Steven auditioned for the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra’s annual Jeanne Selander Youth Concerto Competition, where he won second prize. Because of his talented performance, he was invited to play in the orchestra’s 2005 Pops concert. Today, Steven performs with The New England Conservatory’s Preparatory Orchestras and Wayland High School Symphony Orchestra. He is a freshman at Arlington Catholic High School, where he is pianist and music director of the school musical, as well as pianist and assistant director of the high school chorus, The Voices of Harmony. He has studied with principal harpist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Ann Hobson Pilot, and will also be studying with Ms. Pilot at Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute this summer.
