In addition to classical saxophone, Owen studies jazz improvisation and theory with John Payne of Brookline, Massachusetts. He has experience in small jazz ensembles and plays regularly at the Acton Jazz Cafe. Owen recently directed the pit orchestra in a school production of Animal Crackers and is very active in theater. He has played lead roles in productions of Twelfth Night, Evita, and Crazy for You. Owen is an active songwriter, and has written songs for voice and guitar. He has also contributed music for his band, Uncle B, which recently won first place in his school's Battle of the Bands. Uncle B produced an album in 2007.
