Miki Nagahara of Andover, MA, is the runner-up of the LPO’s 2009 Youth Concerto Competition. Miki is 14 years old and has been playing the violin for eight years. She studies with Roman Totenberg and John Holland, and has also studied with Esther DeGrunigen and Diane Waddell.

Miki is a longtime member of the Boston Youth Symphony, the senior orchestra of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. She has participated since the 2003-2004 season, when she started out in the Preparatory String Orchestra. In the summer of 2008, she toured Germany and the Czech Republic with the Boston Youth Symphony, and performed at the renowned Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Germany.

Miki participated in the Northeastern Junior District Festival as concertmistress in 2009. Recently she was named runner-up for the Walden Chamber Players Youth Competition of 2009. In the summers of 2006 and 2007, she attended Junior Greenwood Music Camp.

Currently a student at West Middle School in Andover, Miki will attend Andover Phillips Academy in the fall. She has started studying piano with the school chorus director, Mr. Desjardins. For fun she enjoys running track, reading and writing, and hanging out with her friends.
