Madeleine Tucker

Madeleine Tucker of Andover, MA is 15 years old and a ninth grade student at Phillips Academy Andover. She has played the cello since the age of 7 and currently studies with Carol Ou at the New England Conservatory in Boston. She has also studied with Cameron Sawzin and Nancy Hair. Maddie has attended the New England Conservatory Preparatory School for the last five years where she has taken lessons, theory classes and has participated in a variety of orchestras. Now she is also a member of the Boston Youth Symphony, the senior orchestra of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. This spring, the orchestra will collaborate with Yo-Yo Ma in the performance of the Dvorak Cello Concerto in B minor. In June, Maddie will travel with the orchestra to the Czech Republic and Germany, where they will perform at the Gewandhaus, the famed concert hall in Leipzig. Maddie won the position of principal cellist at this year's Massachusetts All State Festival Orchestra, which recently performed at Symphony Hall in Boston, MA. She was assistant principal cellist at the Massachusetts Northeast Senior District Festival in January, 2008. In 2006, she was principal cellist of the Massachusetts Northeast Junior District Festival held in Lowell, MA. She is principal cellist of the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra at Phillips Academy. This spring she joined other members of the Phillips Academy orchestra and choral communities on their Cantata Tour to Washington and Philadelphia. Maddie is an active chamber musician in and out of school and has studied chamber music for two summers at Point CounterPoint Chamber Music Camp on the shores of Lake Dunmore, Vermont. At school she participates in the Andover-Lawrence String Program, a community outreach, in which she teaches elementary and middle school children from Lawrence, MA to play the violin and cello. Madeleine is also an accomplished pianist having played since she was three years old. Her teacher has been Svetlana Seifer or North Andover, MA for the last 7 years. Maddie's other interests include competitive swimming, Japanese language and culture, and being with her friends.
