A special message from our Music Director,
Valerie R. Taylor

It's party time with the Lowell Philharmonic! In the fall and winter we build performances of four-movement symphonies, song groups (like our Elgar "Sea Pictures" this year), and other extended pieces, but the May concerts are put together like a Whitman's sampler.

This is the fourteenth such concert I've conducted with the LPO, and over the years I've become more delighted at the ensemble's swift turns of style and mood. The players fizz in the Strauss waltz and the bits from musicals, then become quietly reverent in John Williams's "Hymn to the Fallen"; there's symphonic grandeur in the Dvorak and Rachmaninoff spotlighting our young competition-winners . . . but in recent rehearsals of the tango I heard the LPO's concertmaster playing in a style straight from Buenos Aires!

Above all, this is a chance to celebrate music in the here and now, in the grand resonant space of our home at the Pawtucket Church.

Cheers,
Valerie
