If you have any questions about the competition, contact . About the competitionEach year, the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra sponsors the Jeanne Selander Memorial Concerto Competition, a competition for young musicians, for which the prize is to play a solo with the orchestra at one of its regular concerts.
The contest is open to young musicians up through the age of 18 who live or go to school within 75 miles of Lowell. (Students may still enter if they are over 18 but still enrolled in high school.) This year, auditions took place on February 6, 2010 at the Lowell First Church of the Nazarene, and there were a total of 30 contestants who performed a variety of challenging pieces. At the auditions, musicians will be expected to be prompt for their assigned times. Accompanists are NOT allowed. The auditioners are required to provide the auditioning board with either the piano accompaniment or an orchestral score for their solo. While it is called a Concerto Competition, any major work for solo instrument(s) and orchestra is allowed, such as Lalo's Symphonie Espagnol, or Bruch's Scottish Fantasy.
Auditions are CLOSED to the public.
